My new 04 silver CTR has a mottled fingerprint type effect under the laquer of the rear bottom valance .

I phoned lookers honda and they had a look today.
They have ordered a new valance to be fitted for next thurs.

Seems fair to me ! :)

Voted no - although there's possibly a small line on the rear bumper, which only shows up from certain angles. Can't tell if its just a trick of the light... :?

Voted no, I have got an 04 CTR in Milano Red, been over it with a magnifying glass and can find no blemishes.

Had mine nearly six months and waxed it first time on Sunday and I’ve got to hold my hands up and say the passenger side is very, very slightly patchy. Its already been back to the dealers (last night) for inspection and pictures but definitely some warranty work to come.

Just very slightly frustrating as I inspected the car thoroughly on purchase as well as giving it a good going over at home in different lighting conditions. As well as giving it the once over every time it has been washed.

Bottom line is it is my own lazy fault for not waxing the car sooner. I don't mind washing but waxing I hate. Its something I'll do straight away on purchase for every new car I have in the future. Should we need to do this on a new car though? No, but for your own benefit yes.

I also can't believe what a difference a bit of wax (autoglym) can do to the paintwork finish. I've have three new cars (all fords - one silver) before the CTR, done exactly the same with all of them - waxed 6 months after purchase and not seen anything like it before. Gobsmacked was I, touching cloth.

As for the patchiness - it is very, very difficult to see it but it is there. The two guys at honda both agreed with me although I had to move the car several times for different light for them to see the problem. Also doesn't show up in the pictures so they said if honda UK query the warranty claim they will get someone down to inspect personally.

Would I get a silver again assuming the car is ever a write off in the fure? Yes I would, although it would 50-50 with the red - just my two favourite colours of CTR.

Am I pissed off? A bit! I know it will be sorted under warranty and after done it will be straight home for a wax but....... its not factory finish is it? In my case should this concern me considering the poor quality of the factory finish?!? Its like when you've had a bump or whatever - even if sorted properly you still have that niggling concern. Also I do feel a little bit cheated by Honda - in this day and age how can such shoddy quality control happen, its not like this is an isolated case.

Any concerns? Only that because of the long time since purchase and warranty claim that Honda will say I've had a bump or scrape at some time and that I'm trying to fob it off on them. Has this happened before to anyone?

Final word? Inspect the car at the dealers thoroughly and then go straight home and give it a proper going over with whatever wax you use and check it in all lighting conditions at home. Get it straight back to the dealers if any concerns.

Anyway, sorry for long(ish) post but this is what the forums for - houston I have a problem - lets hope others don't.

hope you get it sorted matey  but a word of caution :!: if they do respray it dont wax it straight away, leave it at least a couple of months to let the paint harden up as the paint is baked at a lower tempture than that at the factory  also try using mequiars wax it gives a much better gloss than autoglym :D ive giving all my autoglym stuff away since using meguiars

I had my new black CTR delivered to my home last week after a good long 10 week wait.. After a bit of a check from the misses I had a call at work telling me of some dodgy paintwork etc. After a good 30 min inspection, we found scratches on the side skirt, paint bobbles and matt finish on the door sills. As well as this there was a small crease on the passenger door. As you can imagine I was not please!!!!! I originally wanted to reject the car but was faced with potentially not getting another this year due to the order books being full at honda. Both the dealer and Honda were very apologetic. My money was offered back in full or the problems could be rectified + a few good will gestures thrown in. Still, although the dealer should have spotted this as part of the inspection, I can't understand why Honda are releasing cars from the factory like this?!? Surely it costs them in the longer run. You'd have thought they'd be tidying up the QA process with the recent problems. Ah well, I get my car back again next week so will let you know if alls fine.
Oh just a footnote, the manager of the dealership did say that when he checked some other type-r's they all seemed to have the small crease on the passenger door and reckoned that it was something they did at the factory to hold the door in the press?? It is only on the passenger doors though.. bizzarre..

I have just taken delivery of a Silver one and everything looks ok. I even took it to a mate who is a paint sprayer and he gave it the thumbs up. I will just have to wait and see if it keeps its condition!!!!

Adios

i have just done my usual routine of pressure washing the wheels before cleaning them with a small paintbrush when the missus shouted me, I turned around and washed the paint off the front valance.
It is a 4 month old silver CTR

Should i demand a new front splitter?

Picked my cosmic up on saturday, :P and it's going back on wednesday  due to having a patch of different colour on the osf corner of the bumper. hardly notices, but it is not the point...

all else is well though, only 385 miles to go until I can unleash the beast!

Few patches on a new Cosmic Gray and a nice polish on a new black one:

This black car went back to the dealer and has now been sold to a "happy" new owner...

The paint finish itself on my silver 54 plate car is flawless but the bumpers and side skirts are a slightly darker shade of silver than the rest of the car.

I got a 54 in cosmic and it seemed fine, until i first washed it that it!!
In certain light and at certain angles i noticed patches on the bonnet. wing and door!!
HUK said they would re-spray them all but i said that i didn't want them re-sprayed so they then offered to give me a new bonnet, wing and door but again i said no.
I didn't want a 3 weeks old car with a different paint job on the bonnet, wing and door!
Eventually after 2 1/2 months of battling to get a new car i phoned Trading Standards and the dealership within 3 days had ordered me a new car
Picked it up on 8th December and i've just gone past the 600 mile mark today!!

Seen all the posts re plastic bumpers and body kit bits appearing to be a different shade to the rest of the car.

I believe you will find the answer to be;

The body is painted at a completely different time to the plastic panels.
So, re metallic paints, I think I am right in saying that the metallic particles in the paint, on the body of the car all "lie" in the same direction, bumpers and other body kit parts may have them settled in a different direction, this can give the impression that it is a different shade.

Following on from that, any accident or any other paint repairs for non metallic cars would generally only paint repaired/replaced panels but metallic colours will invariably be blended to the adjacent panels to lose any apparent shade difference.

Previous post is spot on. I did a tour of the Jaguar plant in Liverpool last year. The plastic parts are provided 'Just in time' by a third party firm. They arrive on pallets in order syncronised with the assembly line. Black car comes down the line, next bumper off the pallet matches for colour and other specs including fogs / chrome etc. Would be very suprised if Honda don't do something similar. Its all about cash. Without it, you wouldn't be able to make 200bhp cars to sell for £16k

Picking up my Black CTR early next week. Will give it a thorough inspection for the reported defects.

i had to have the whole drivers side re sprayed due to poor quality of paintwork, this job was done 3 times and im still not 100% happy as there is defo a difference

even honda dealers that have i spoken too have siad the paintwork on honda cars are crap. If they have type r s or s2000 in stock then they dont put them under any strong light as this shows up the poor quality.

There you go thats my rant finished
