I managed to take the type R out for a proper run in and test tonight. The results are that there is a definate improvement in performance.

The throttle is much more responsive, but the biggest improvement is when I am accelerating in VTEC at higher speeds. the engine feels alot stronger.

This is a thumbs up from me.

one last question (promise) what size jubilee clip did you use.. your pipe is 90mm and i think the airbox outlet os 60mm..

>> I am guessing a 50-70mm clip is fine and the pipe just gets compressed to the smaller size

I got a 70-90mm clip. A good tip - fit it to the airbox before installing it into the car.

TBH, I have used closed and open induction kits on my Elise, VX, and Clio Track car. This mod has made the most difference from before and after compared to the other applications.

I am not sure if this would be reflected on the RR, but for drivability you cant beat it without spending some popper money on a GM, etc.

think guys before you do this mod dyno the cars As what i found with my AEM kit is that due to less restriction the v tech comes in at 6100rpm not 5800rpm as was confirmed by a recent dyno jus thought i'd share that lil info!!!!

not saying this mod will be the same but food for thought

vtec point is controlled by the ECu and not the intake system so wont change unless you have kpro fitted...

.. maybe the RR was out a little during your runs??

My "hack it up" airbox arrived today, ordered the CAF tubing a moment ago and my new filter is in at Honda. Looking forward to giving this a go during the week. Just need to source a dremmel and I'm away. :-)

edit - thinking about it, where's the cheapest place to get an SFS silicon induction hose from? Found them for about £60 on eBay, is that the cheapest? Cheers.

this is the cheapest I have found... I see people selling second hand for more than fleabay prices.. not sure waht the SFS will do with regards to performance though (my guess is nothing)

scruffy_ wrote:It was just for dress up, and to replace the old intake hose that has a habit of splitting really. Cool, one of those on the list of things to get then!

Cheers :-)
+1 - if my hose were to split this would be the replacement item in a flash

is this safe on heavy rain
also wondering this? is that why the OEM pipe has the bend in it?

or is there sufficient bend in the new cold air feed to not get water in the box?

this is a very good point, maybe slight modification of the angle of the caf behind the grille would help?

or maybe a modified aem hydrosheild behind the grille would help??

however,

the mugen official mugen intake has a caf that runs straight from the grille to the filter and works ok??
