Scott Whitelaw, of the CPL team, today took the European record for the fastest Honda running 10.6 seconds at 137 mph over the quarter mile, with 2.0 litre engine and CPL's road turbo kit. Scott also won Jap Show and the HKS series for the front wheel drive class.

A great team effort by all, well done to:

Scott – phenomenal bit of driving, you are a hero
Guy – for building the engine, tuning the car, and adding some “secret CPL bits” etc
Dave – setting up the suspension and some of the electrics
Elliot (creater of Virtual Racer) – the software was accurate in predicting Scott’s results to within 0.01 of a second

Thanks to the rest of the CPL team, Scott’s mum & dad and all the CPL customers who came along to support us today. Thanks also to CPL’s sponsors and supporters:
ARP, Clutchmasters, Earls, Virtual Racer, Quaife and Hondata.

A full write up and photos will be put up on website next week.

Well the cats out the Bag..........................it wort of was yesterday when Scott went 10.77 in Testing, breaking the Europen FWD Record held by TDI (System R) for a week.

Scott then went through Qualifying, and also eliminations to the final to back up his run of 10.77 with an amazing 10.6 Second Pass...................

I know Scott will say his own thanks, but I must first thank Guy and Dave at CPL both Dave and Guy have done an amazing amount of work on both my own and Scotts car over the last few weeks.........when Guy could have been working on his won car, as im sure people are aware suffered a crash at Santa Pod last month.............but no he worked on Customers Cars and what a job he did.

We knew that Scott was going to go well, and I got to say I take my Hat off to Scott for the awsome performance, no other words can describe it, I take my hat off to anyone that runs fast in these cars as trust me it aint easy, as I have found out, I used to think changing gear and everything was a breeze until I had the NOS and now its a different ball game (allthough a new clutch and Gearbox may help a bit) My Congrats go to Scott.............well done dude I told you you could do it :)

The Record has also been registered as on Official Santa Pod FWD Record for the Quickest FWD Jap Car by Santa Pod as Scott managed to back up his time.

The Weekend was superb, I managed a new PB of 12.06 @ 114 MPH (I recon I can break into the 11s with a new box and clutch as mine has seen better days)
West also set a new PB with a 12.10 I think it was :)

Unfortunately Paul Jones suffered a problem with the Gear box, he doesnt seem to get much luck at Santa Pod.

Im sure the Pics and Videos and stuff will all be up later, but once again Congrats to Scott and also Many Many thanks to Guy and Dave and everyone at CPL Racing that made this possible

Roll on Next Year.........................................will we see a 9 Second FWD Car......................well I hope so and hope not as if we go faster than 10.00 we have to Race with HOT RODS but thats another argument alltogether :) but roll on next year)

 Just got back home - for the 1st time the 350mile drive never bothered me - I wonder why

Lynn and Pete sums it up really.

Massive thanks to CPL, the guys involved with the team and my other sponsor Opie Oils

Was not a bad run................. 3 10sec passes over the weekend and when I wanted to do them. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about  ................... and as I said before 'stock box rules'

I'm sure the record for the Fastest Honda in Europe won't stay in my corner for long, with no more power for me next year I will sit back, realx and watch Paul and Guy battle it out........

That’s a stunning time, you may be correct saying this record will fall fairly quickly but in my opinion what you have achieved must go down as something very special, a privateer who ran a 10 second ¼ mile in his daily driver, then drove home (350 miles)
Please don’t take this as a criticism of tuners, what Guy and Paul have achieved is outstanding but not unexpected with the resources they have, I’m not just referring to finances either, technical and support as well.
For me, what you've done holds more credibility, you are one of 5 of the only FWD cars in the UK to run a 10, currently you’re the 3rd fastest.
I like the fact this has been done on a daily driver by an enthusiast, I’m sure it won’t worry the likes of Guy and Paul because we know their times are just stepping stones on the way to 9’s, but credit were it’s due, it’s your car and you drove it into the 10’s and based on the spec I’ll buy you a pint when I meet you,,,

Well done

Cheers Eddie mate but I do trailer to the events now  Just in case anything breaks but Guy did drive it from the drag strip last weekend to his workshop some 150miles away. I don't use it everyday as I have 80mile trip to work...... dread to think of the fuel costs! But its a weekend car and I even take the other half shopping in it at the weekends but she said its too noisy and calls it 'the bucket'  My £40K investment and she calls it a bucket...... can't please everyone

As you say mate it won't stay long and wish I could keep going with it but engine's etc all cost money - lots of money. I gave it a bash this year and think I'm down 15-20K - I have to say its been worth it and I can always say I had the record and won the HKS drag series. My efforts will be focused towards helping Guy out and running my car but in a more fun way in 2008.

Cheers for the pint offer - hope its vodka and red bull

Erm im pretty sure they know what they are talking about when they claim a european record. I cant watch the VID at work but im guessing there's something not right. :vconf:

Firstly; is the AVR car FWD? Looks like a CRX but why does it need a wheelie bar?

Secondly; is it street legal?

Thirdly; that strip's a little Heath Robinson and looks to be downhill! :vconf: Surely to have an official record it must be on a regulation strip?

Thats been talked about before - its a hotrod on a downhill track with wheelie bars etc........ 1 piece front end. Totally meaningless and rubbish time for what it is. Things like that go into the 7sec bracket in the states.
#1714541
Erm that CRX is a Tube Chassis...................Hot Rod, as pointed out by Scott they go 7s FWD in the US in them :P

We are building the Cars in the HKS Drag Series to rules...........................they being improved on currently but there are some rules...............and hot rods with tube chassis dont get covered :)
