Hi Paul

You mentioned that you had a GruppeM previously... In your honest opinion is there much difference between the Gruppem and the ITG airbox???

(About GruppeM)
Also you mentioned that in order to open the bonnet you had to remove the scoop??? Is this really the case... Im sure you could make some few minor modifications like shaving the scoop slightly to allow the bonnet to lift wouldn't be too hard?

Im waiting to recieve my Buddyclub exhaust which I cant wait for... Once that was on I was going to then buy a GruppeM induction kit BUT...

You had to go and put this post up!!! lol Im now confused!!!!

Yes, you can shave a few mm off the scoop to sort this problem, the scoop isn't needed for performance, it just helps keep the rain out the filter, a few people have run the GruppeM without the scoop with little / no performance loss.

Hi Lance,

I'll be honest about the GruppeM. I had one it sat in my room for around 2 weeks then i sold it. I never put it on. I saw the scutter panel and the scoop and didn't like the idea of fiddling around with it so i just sold it to another member on here.

Its really upto you but i think the price difference does not represent alot more, if any, performance difference. They are also quite common now :P

the kit looks very impressive and those gains from 'just' a filter are mighty impressive. It's certainly got my vote!

So far there has been no mention of induction noise. Did you take the car out on any roads and do some "real world" testing.

The performance figures speak for themselves, but does it make all the right sounds when in and entering V-tec?

adam> thanks for the support we just wanted to prove that now there is a choice in the market for the very best airfilters, before everybody used to ask, what is the best? GruppeM would be the answer. It wasn't much of a fight. Now we can at least throw our hat into the ring.

Magnet> The sound is hard to describe. It is not loud and makes the engine sound quite classy. Like a deep throat roar in vtec. It is not high pitched which is what I hate. Pre-vtec sounds very very much like stock.

If i had to describe a similar sounding induction kit I would say it sounds like the Blitz sonic I had before but alot more refined and only half as loud.

Yup cheers for that ! I'm very happy with it :)

Your surprised by the optimax results... I was shocked  I thought to myself what is the man talking about, blah blah extra 6bhp on an accord type r and i thought he was talking bull. When we came back and reset the ecu i was like eh? Extra 5-6bhp at the wheels and 4lb/ft extra. Where on earth did they come from? Only change was the fuel and ecu reset so i guess its because of that.

Also if you look at the graph, the optimax curve appears to be somewhat smoother, alot less up downs if you know what i mean.
The more I hear about the ITG, it does sound like a custom made BMC for the CTR. I'll probably sample one and chop in the BMC. Regarding the Optimax, the surprising thing is that you got the extra horses pretty much straight away. I would have thought it would have taken a few runs to get any kind of improvment, makes you think what kind of improvement you would get when the stuff has bedded in and cleaned your engine. I have to admit the car did run smooth with the Optimax, explains the power curves on the graphs.

Regarding the sound from what you have described sounds very much like any closed box induction kits. I too hate the open cone sound and like the unstated, feel it not hear it, power is more important than sound upgrade. I also think the cf has an affect on the sound. Quite a low, thrumming, barely there, mechanical sound at low revs. Builds up to accentuate the VTEC sound, not changing the sound, just amplifying it.

I still need to know what hold it up off the throttle cable? I have a bracket on the BMC that attaches to a screw hole for the original box that holds it up.

Less of my prattling

Think I'll have to sample one of these for the DC5.

Sounds good - it looks as though the box amplifies the mechanical growl which comes as standard. I too am not a fan of stupidly loud induction kits but do like the metallic rasp of Vtec!

I am undecided at the moment. Cant seem to justify getting rid of the Comptech Icebox for the ITG. Dont think the difference will be significantly noticable to warrant the change. Does look like an awesome bit of kit though. Also I will have the same problem with the strut brace :(

No probs scottie. But my gut feeling is that the strut will get in the way of the box. It is quite big. Never know until we check though so you might be lucky.

Neal01> This box is going to benefit most to those who have the OEM airbox/open cone filters. If you already have a coldair box then you won't see a massive gain tbh. If your happy with what you got then there really is no reason to change.

Well, I'm running just a Spoon drop-in filter so if the power gains are that good I may well be willing to lose the strut brace. Only if I really have to though.
