Didnt say you did, just commented that the charity shield is on the same standing as all the other friendly competitions held in pre-season.

Friendly comps =/= actual comps therefore shouldnt be included when looking back on the success/failure of a season.
do you or do you not have to qualify for it?
its a 1 off cup game with a trophy at the end of it
it isnt a friendly tournament
A few years back nani was sent off vs west ham in the league, his ban didn't include the community shield. If it was a competitive fixture he would have missed it

your quoting (the retarded) fa rules to back your point up? jesus how desperate are you

yep  nothing funnier then watch a player get a trophy hes not arsed, the piont i was trying to make is the players care about winning even if this is a show peice event for the FA it means something to the club / players who win it & ergo teh fans should be happy to win it as well :salut:

This charity shield was slightly different though due to the team they were playing.

perhaps last years but what about the bazzillion others you've won. if the club finds it worth of a place adjecent to the champions league trophy then i would tend to think its classed as a trophy. it could be mooted that the general disregard for the community sheild as a competitive trophy sums up the mindset of the nuvo post 99 football fan

The charity shield is endorsed by the fa as a show piece for the league/cup winners. They themselves class it as a friendly or at the very least Brian barwick (sp?) is quoted as saying. And IMO any friendly match which happens to have a trophy at the end of it doesn't count. I'm sure someone's going go to the trouble of finding a quote/proof it's a official game that has significant ramifications but it's just another game in the build up to the season.

United can include it in their trophy cabinets as it is endorsed by a official organization in football but all I see it as is another preseason game as I'm sure most players/managers and fans do. As a fan I always look at the league/fa cup/ucl/carling cup as competitive fixtures, charity shield is nice to win but if we only lifted that this season I wouldn't bleed on about it

See if it is a competitive game why is it when a players banned from the previous season and it carries over they are free to play in the community shield? It's a honest question because if it is a domestic competitive game that game should be a part of the ban period

Semantics, the players want to win it ergo its a competitive game.

I can't believe people are still rowing about the Charity Shield, and talking about how players looking pleased means that it matters to them.

Anyway, there's proper football on this weekend....competitive football.

Shh he spent ages getting those photos to prove the Charity Sheild is so important to the players!

But you're right lets move on, United vs Chelsea tomorrow i wonder if SAF would be tempted to play Pogba with Giggs and Carrick to give us a bit of energy in midfield
