I just wonder if it improves the fuel situation, like it has with the X Sport (7% MPG improvement).

I know ive got the st220 but i dont think its all that so cant see the x being all you make it out to be. Just saying like.

I've driven the old ST diesel. Had it for a week - nice but I didn't buy one as I didn't need 4 doors, so bought the Type R instead.

Biggest difference is that it feels an infinitely more premium car (hence why I compared it with a 530D).

I had an old shape Mondeo for 3 months and i've had a new shape Mondeo for about the same time and i do agree the new shape is much nicer inside but i have to say the switch gear was awful, pressing the climate control buttons especially, you have to really twat the buttons to get them to work and it would need some serious convincing to make me believe they weren't made from recycled coke bottle tops.
The FN2 has better switch gear IMO.
