as for lawler and manhoef i was really looking forward to it. both are stand up fighters and while many dont really know about melvin he is a pretty decent mma fighter and a good k1 fighter. it was only ever going to end one way and that was somebody ktfo. glad it was lawler though as i had money on him :-D
Manhoef is a savage and far superior to Lawler (who I also like) in stand up. I wouldn't say Manhoef is a decent MMA fighter as he has absolutely no ground game(which he admits). The problem with that is it affects his stand up as he cannot keep all his focus on striking in case he gets taken down. IMO that's how he got knocked out by Lawler who had his head down and maybe even eyes closed but it could have appeared like he was going to shoot for legs.

Lawler was getting tooled and could barely walk at the end. Fair play to him though and he was right that Manhoef does drop his hands when he sees a finish.

Are you kidding? I'm suprised it's being allowed. If GSP doesn't get him within 10 seconds I will be uber shocked.

mate hardys rock solid and has got dangerous hands. dont get me wrong gsp is a machine but this is mma and all it takes is a sly right hook. hardy impressed me when he thought joe swick and he's no slouch. i would still put money on gsp wining in the first/second round, but i might put a sly ten spot on a hardy decision or knock out as he has power in those hands.

hardys one to watch

Everyone said Alves was going to be dangerous but he couldn't touch GSP (if memory serves correct). Hardy hasn't been against anyone like GSP it's going to be over so fast. That said GSP has been injured recently hasn't he? So Hardy might get a few shots in

My thoughts were "How embarrased must the Gracie family be!". He was a donkey!!

As for Dan Hardy, he is a very good fighter (excellent kicks) who would probably get the better of GSP if it remained a striking contest but as we all know, GSP's wrestling is awesome now & no one in the welterweight division has an answer for it! I can see a similar result to the Alves one, GSP winning due to far superior wrestling.

GSP vs Anderson Silva would be interesting as Anderson is a far superior striker, has an excellent takedown defense & also a great (attacking) guard due to his BJJ.
GSP is a very talented fighter but I can't see him winning this one (if it did take place!).

As an aside, there was a small internal MMA tournament at our Muay Thai gym last weekend. It was to focus mainly on grappling skills & as such, there was a no head strikes whatsoever rule.

One of the guys decided that since he couldn't hit the head, he'd focus on low kicks instead of grappling as was the main purpose of the tournament. Anyone who has done MMA or Muay Thai should be aware that low kicks need to be 'set up' (e.g. with punches). This guy thought he'd just stand & throw a full force low kick (with his back leg - right). His opponent checked the kick with his left leg - just beneath his knee). Was straight forward as he could see the kick coming a 'mile off'.
The guy who checked the kick stumbled back with the pain, but the guy who threw the kick came off a little worse.......he broke his shin bone in two! There was no blood as the bone didn't pierce the skin, but he had a 'rubber leg' - people in the audience & other fighters ran out of the room throwing up!

Just thought i'd share it! :-D

cant beat a nasty breakage

My mate showed me a fight the other day from K1, two little jappos going at it, this fella had the other guys arm tied behind his own back - PC plod style - for a good 60 seconds, striking here and there in a few different positions - keeping this arm held, ends up kind of north/south on the floor and he just turns it into a submission of some description, wouldnt say it was kimura or arm bar... something odd... anyway, broke the guys arm clean in two you hear the crack, hear the scream and see the arm break - sickest thing iv ever seen in MMA... and to boot the fella gets up and gives him the :stfu: right in his face

i take it your on about the Aoki vs Hirota fight from the last K1 Dynamite event

i thought it was a bit harsh snapping his arm then giving him the finger :-D

worst one i have seen was Corey Hill when he broke his leg. there have been similar leg breaks in other fights but what made it worse was i watched him come through TUF then into the UFC and then BANG leg snapped

made his comeback not long ago though and even topped it off with a win :-D
