as crazy as it sounds, theres next to no water ingress to the grill area, unless you are tailgating other cars very closely and you will get a small amount of spray. Similar science involved with the seibon carbon bonnets, they have huge vents above the engine but hardly any water gets in there at all, if any..

I had a cf bonnet with a bonnet vent and that was the same, never had any water staining underneath it, apart from when I washed the car, the water would run through it then.

just fitted mine and it took about 20 mins including removing the box, working out the path and fitting everything back.. I found removing the plastic section between the grille and slam panel made life much easier... also managed to curve the entry downwards slightly to mitigate any water entry... but I agree with N&N that this is very unlikely but the OEM pipe have a small drain hole at the bottom of the entry nozzle so I guess the Honda techs thought this could be an issue also....

After a 30 minute drive I noticed the mid range feels better and the pull is less jerky at the bottom end.. there is a nice induction noise as I guess the new pipe does not sound insulate at the box entry point.. definite improvement all round for very little money.

One observation is that the pipe is held in place by the radiator hose and this gets nice and hot.. when my OBDII module arrives I will measure the intake temp and then see if squeezing a bit of insulation between the pipes makes any difference... I cannot imagine when you are moving fast there will be any impact but at low speed or idle on a hot day there could be a little heatsoak (maybe I am being too pedantic??)

Great mod.. thanks for the input guys

I think this whole Hondata + CAF should be a sticky in the 'how to' section

I have been driving for a couple of days now and the difference it very noticable... the car pulls better, is smoother and more responsive thoughout the range... plus the noise is nicer without being offensive

I have no idea if there is more power but tbh this is not important, stock power is more than enough for the UK roads and this mod just makes it more available and usable.

+1, this should be a sticky...

HONDATA mod - free
K&N filter element - 40 pounds (or there-abouts)
CAF and clips - 15 pounds (or there-abouts)

so thats 55 quid for a decent (by all accounts) intake, i think someone needs to dyno it (for the haterz) before and after because something tells me you'll have to spend a few bob to beat this!

and it's even endorsed by HONDATA themselves!

Chris, that cold air feed pipe is superb. Seriously impressed with the build quality. I've started modding my airbox, reckon i'm about 3/4 the way through the cutting then I just need to tidy up. Doing it in stages to give my neighbours a rest from the uber-loud dremel action.

But is it though? I just want some added bass before I change the exhaust, and a some extra power.

did the mod with the CAF today, most impressed so far, definite increase in throttle response.

on a side note, my K&N looked a little dirty, it's been in for 10k miles, anyone know the best place to get a recharge kit? and if i'm right in thinking it needs 'recharging' every 12k or so??

cheers,

mat.
