I just found this pic from another thread. The owner had fed his CAF down under the bay area. Would this be more benificial than above the rad? Where has he fed it too?

I would be worried about water ingress.

Thats Sam, and he has chosen the same route that the Icebox uses, which is straight down behind the bumper somewhere. I prefferred mine as it was large and short.. :salut:

I think I agree with your method.

I ordered this, I am just waiting for it to arrive:

Did you have a scoop, I cant remember.

I am just going to feed it into the gap between the rad and the slam panel and tie it in place.

that'll do it, you won't need much but it never hurts to have some spare. I just tied it in place, roughly shaped it to the shape of the hole..job done. :salut:

Thats what I was planning - cheers.

I used the same stuff on my tracked out clio: [not the best of routes looking at that bend but it worked].

pretty severe bend that like you say...It's the same pipe that comes with the ITG and the same pipe that came with my air scoop kit I just bought, good stuff.

With that 90mm pipe you have ordered it may be slightly too big for the airbox inlet, just fill it out a bit with tape and crank it down with a monster jubilee, better too big than too small.

The CAF arrived today.

It looks really good quality. It has a silicone feel, and also a wire structure to keep it sturdy. I will fit it tomorrow morning when I get a chance, I would do it today but I have got a job interview this afternoon.

interested to know how you get on with this one.... do you think it would be worth covering the pipe with reflective heat insulation tape to prevent the heat from the enging bay penetrating the neoprene (black absorbs heat)>???

If I do this i will measure the before and after temps to see what the diffeerence is in each case

Did the jubillee clip come with the pipe or was this and extra?

You could cover the tubing up, however I think it will be sufficient for what I need as the journey to the front gap is very short.

The jubilee hose clips were bought separately - from B&Q £2.50.

I'm just going out to fit it now

All fitted!

I have some sore fingers but it was all worth it.

I used the full 1/2 meter of feed, no need cut it shorter. The main reason for this is that I loosened the grille and fed the CAF through the gap above the rad then directly behind the grille. The CAF is great as it moulds to the exact shape you need. The Type R has not got loads of room at the front of the bay.

For some reason the system seems slightly louder now. The throttle response seems better and the CTR seems to pull like a train. I pick up my unsilenced 2.5" B Pipe tonight so I think that when that is fitted it will compliment my breathing mod.

this is excellent.. did you secure the pipe at the grille end or is it just held in place under its own pressure/spring action?.. I would probably use a tiewrap to secure it to the OEM bracket that you removed to be safe

Just ordered the fleabay pipe and going to try this myself... I am hoping to get an OBDII reader so I will test the intake temps before and after and report the differences... I will also then see if cladding in insulation makes any further difference

Good work and thanks for the update

You will not need any tie wraps. I was going to do the same but it just was not needed as it fits very secure and snug. You will need to remove the bracket otherwise the CAF will not fit.

I will be interested in your results.

nice work chris, pretty much what I had on mine and kept it like that for a year and it worked perfectly. A b-pipe will make a big difference to the car. One of the few bolts-ons I have ever genuinely felt a difference with.

pipe in post and going to get jubbly clip tomorrow (i spelt it like that for effect before anyone corrects me)... now need to locate a roll of thin light thermal wrap but will do this afterwards

something like this http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=heat ... rap&_rdc=1

Great write up.. you just did what I wanted to do for a while but was too lazy to get up off my arse..
