I was supposed to be doing my sparks today but I got carried away doing the Hondata Airbox Mod on my Prem.

I would not do this again without a Dremel [mine broke a while ago].
So I used a Hacksaw, Jr Hacksaw, Coping Saw, File, and Side Snips. It took over an hour of sawing and swearing! :bad-words:
Its all done now, but I havent popped it back into the CTR yet because I am going out for the day :thumbup:

I am going to do the sparks tomorrow and pop the Box back in. I will report on results.

Following this little mod I am doing to get a 90mm+ heatproof CAF to improve flow.

I finally got the kit installed and tested out.

Noise - when revved statically the typical 'induction suck' noise is now evident, It wasnt before. When driven on full acceleration there is now more induction noise coming from the engine bay which is almost as audible as the engine but not quite. It is however louder than before.

Performance. I only went for a 10 mile test route around my local B roads so probably not enough time for the ECU to tweek its settings. However there was a definate difference. Throttle response was slighly better, it also revved through the range more freely. There was a definate stronger pull in VTEC.

I highly recommend this little modification.

I am now sourcing an oversized intake which I will fit from above the Radiator straight through to the Airbox,

Still if you want a proper job those pics still arent exactly right. ALL fins need removing and sanding smooth, the idea is to replicate the Mugen box but with a slight air intake mass :thumbup:

It will still be better either way :thumbup:

That would be difficult as the mugen airbox is a panel filter and our oem box is a cylindrical filter.

The idea of leaving the fins at the back and on the side is to slow the air down once it starts going round the filter.

+1.. removing all the fins is not to be advised....... there still needs to be some form or aircontrol inside the box...

Thats why I left the rest alone. The fins direct the fast flowing air towards the filter.

Also im a bit of a noob, But looking at the pics, How the hell does that filter even work, There is only one route into the airbox???

The air enters the lower compartment [the one in the pic] and gets sucked through the filter into the upper compartment which has a feed to the inlet manifold.

ITG, K&N are all good aftermarket filters.

Eh, where does the air enter the lower compartment, All i can see is the pipe to the inlet mani?

in the top section there is a pipe the couples to the top hole in the filter.. this is integrated into the top of the box... take a look for yourself and it will switch on a lightbulb :thumbup:

Arr cool, Cheers. Is there any difference between the spoon or mugen cone filter besides £25, The mugen claims it lowers pressure 50% over OEM??!?

There are 2 compartments. Lower and Upper.

The photo's above display the lower compartment. You can see where the CAF directs air into the box.

The upper compartment [not shown] connects ontop. There is a pipe within the upper compartment than slips inside the filter and is fed to the throttle body/inlet manifold.

The best way for you to find out how it works is by looking into your engine bay. :thumbup:

I have the K&N and i very much doubt there is £25 difference in performance between this and the Mugen.. but I am sure others would disagree as always
