My biggest fear when doing something like this is that you turn the car into a ticking time bomb and the years till its death are reduced significantly. Am I right in thinking so? If not, please correct me.

You always take a risk when modifying an engine so in some respects you are correct.

However as long as you don't run anymore than 8psi on a jrsc you should be o.k. Any more boost than that and you are just generating heat which will melt the engine

Totally agree. There's a significant number of cars out there with this combination that have large amounts of mileage on them with no hassles what so ever.

As with anything mechanical it can fail if mistreated or abused, even when not supercharged, but this is known as a pretty safe bet a long as you don't go over the 8 PSI as stated in previous post.

This is my daily driver so I wouldn't take the risk if there was one.

Out of curiosity, what would happen should you go over 8psi, and please don't shout, I haven't read anything else on the forum about what psi is, im guessing something to do with pressure inside the engine? Are these things you can set when installing or is it just a class of supercharger as u do HID's (H7 etc).

And define abuse; Staying in high rev's 5 days a week or more than once a week?

Thanks for the positive responses so far btw.

PSI is the measurement for the pressure the Supercharger is producing........ you know just like pressure in your tyres. There's 2 issues here really. One is the engine itself on the factory internal parts isn't really made to handle boost pressure at all, but seems to be able to reliably handle up to 8 PSI of pressure OK over a long period so that's one limiting factor.

The second is that the supercharger itself is most comfortable producing 8 PSI. It can be made to produce more, but part of the process of producing the boost makes it get hot and the more you push it the hotter the air gets. Hot air into an engine causes other issues which will in turn create physical damage to the engine and will eventually make it fail.

So in short, it's not impossible to run more boost pressure but just not really worth if for the risk or cost in most peoples opinions.

To make the supercharger make more pressure (PSI) you just need to change the belt and the pulley wheel on the end of it to make it spin faster, so it's cheap and easy to achieve, but as mentioned, it's got other bad consequences.

Hope that helps your understanding.

Well just to let you all know I haven't forgotten about updating the thread, but we're still working on getting the custom extension to the PasswordJDM airbox that I purchased......... it's looking amazing and if it seems to work OK and others are interested we've made everything so we can make some more units from the molds......

We're also working on something I don't think I've ever seen before on a car so I'll keep that secret till I've got some pictures........... won't be too far away, I think we'll be making the final carbon vacuum mold this week so I should have some pictures for you guys to see what you think.

Furry muff............. would be a boring place if we all liked the same things :)

Glad you like the GTR, it's been a few years in the making (8 to be precise !)........ they're so totally different cars that it's really good being able to drive the Civic then get to drive the GTR on the weekends or when I want something mental to drive...... ! Then again now with the supercharger I bet the Civic's going to feel mental too.

Thanks for the nice comments, it's nice to know others appreciate the time and effort you've put into things.

OK, so here's a couple of updates.......... have just been to Carboglass to work some more on the car and Zac has made some awesome progress.

Unfortunately I didn't have a good camera there as I wasn't expecting it to be so far along so could only take pictures with my cell with very low light so you won't be able to see the detail, but should be able to get the idea.

And removed the bonnet stay and made up some mounts for some carbon bonnet dampers. Can you believe I e-mailed 7 seperate companies telling them that I knew they didn't make a kit for the EP3 but that I had measured the space and if they had some dampers in an existing kit that I could use I could make up my own mounts to suit. 6 wrote back saying "We don't make a kit for the EP3" !!!! Jeeeeesus can't you people read !

Luckily one did write back offering me an RX7 kit which I managed to make fit perfectly after a bit of fiddling around the struts seem to be weighted well to the bonnet so all is well !!! :)

For those who might want some the company I dealt with were AWESOME ! I ordered from the US and had them on my door 5 days later !

http://www.prosportgauges.com is the company. Glenn was the guys name.

As mentioned, I believe the kit was for FD3 RX7, but he'll know if you mention my name.

Cost was $ 143 USD including freight so I'd assume it'll be close to get them from the US to Europe as well.

OK, so this still isnt finished as we've still got some area's to cut out and some edging to do, but thought you might like to see the progress so far.

Also for those eagle eyed among you, you would have spotted what I think is a very cool one off carbon pipe from the throttle body to the airbox......that weighs next to nothing and I think looks cool !!!!

Image

Hopefully we'll be finished next week with the airbox and I can get the car back

We also managed to get not the final tune, but the final power tune done with the larger pully to make the supercharger run to it's 8psi boost level and we were a little surprised to make less than we'd expected, however overall I'm happy with the result especially on the torque front.

I'll post some comparison graphs later when I get them so you can see the results before and after.
