Is there anyway of playing an ipod on a standard CTR stereo - adaptor etc??

If not, then can certain head units play from an ipod??

Im going to guess its an EP3 you have.
And if so then yes you can.

On my old Standard Head Unit, i had a "Connects2" AUX interface.
It plugged into the rear of the HU, in the CD Changer slot. then the wireing loom ran into a small box which then split the signal into an RCA connection. Then into that goes the RCA to 3.5mm audio jack plug. (Its all supplied, so don't worry.

This was just a simple AUX 3.5mm plug, so it didnt charge the iPod etc, and the only way of changing songs etc was the iPod itself. You can however get a kit from the same company that comes with the iPod connection itself, but i am unsure as to what features it has.

you can buy a crappy little tape type thing with some wires coming out of it that you plug into your iPod adn then stick the tape bit in the stereo, I dunno if they do a CD equivelant though :scratch:

You can control and charge the ipod from your stereo. I went with the dock cable opposed to the active dock as I wanted to keep my ipod out of view in the glove box. Originally I wanted to place the ipod connection in the centre console bin but gave up trying to get access to it from the dash. The unit also gives you a regular audio jack so you can plug in other audio devices, which is handy

Fitting it is a piece of pi$$, and just as well because the installation instruction are virtually non-existent.

All in all it cost me £110 and I reckon money well spent.

I found this link which seems to detail a DIY AUX -IN adapter for the head unit in a Brazillian Civic. I have not tried it myself so do not vouch for the applicability to European Civics.

I think the various iPod adapters and cables available are a great rip-off. They are very expensive for what little most of them do.

I found this JVC head unit that hardly costs much more than some adapters and does a lot, iPod wise, for the money:

I really want to keep the standard head unit, all i want to upgrade are the speakers themselvs and have a cable that i can plug my ipod into in the glove box.

Well, what I am planning on doing this weekend is 'close' to what you are after. I have some speakers from my previous car that I will be putting in the doors. At the back of the metal cradle that the standard head unit is mounted in, I will be mounting a small 14 wpch 4 channel amp. The iPod will feed directly into this amp. The Head unit will still be there but will not be functional.

I shall take some pics and post them.

I had the same setup in my previous car and never missed the lack of a radio. I think of the iPod as 'Channel Me' - the station that always plays exactly what I like.

With an iPod, you don't need a CD player or changer - IMO.

cool sounds good to me, would i better off getting some cheaper alpine speakers if im going to be running them off the head unit or will I still notice the difference buying top-notch ones?

i have a alpine in mine with fast ipod, mp3 play back and a radio

that set me back not much more than these ipod connectors.

ill say the easiest way to get ure problem sorted if u havent done it yet is to order the part from any connects to dealer and get it fitted there
now the part number is CTAHOIPOD001 thats a connects2 part for honda oem stereos u can charge play and control it from the head unit but if u have a cd changer u will have to loose it.get it done from halfords part cost is 90.00 pounds and fitting is 40 quid depends.cheers (i work for halfords)

I originally went down the halfords route, but was put off by incorrect info about install times, parts and costs and the spotty Ripspeed sales staff (No offence) didn't give me much confidence in handing over my CTR keys.

Honestly, fit it yourself and save £40, it really is a piece of cake.

Yip, there is a gap the size of the Grand Canyon from behind the centre console leading into the glove box from above

yeh in some branches the staff is really not very professional it is easy though if u know wut u doin.
