Squeaks in the upper part of the dashboard

I don't know if it's due to the F***g roads in this country, but I discovered recently that the upper part of the dashboard (exactly above the rev counter ~ it's the plastc thing) makes an annoying squeak (like the one expanded polystyrene does) when going on bumpy roads.
If I hold it, it stops.
I tried movind this platic upper part when stationary and it's doing the same noise (I did it just to be sure that I know what is the cause :) ).

Anyone experienced this?
Any solutions ?

Yup, i have a similar thing, also the parcel shelf seems to rattle and the passenger seat belt knocks against the passenger seat... i suggest keep the revs over 5.5k and they disappear

Yeah I have the same noise in the same place. It is just the type of plasic used and seems to be caused by the temperature due to the plastics expanding (this is my un-scientific analysis). That's my opinion anyway as I notice that if its cold out and I put the heaters on the noise increases and vice versa. It does stop after a while if you leave the heaters/air con off, windows shut, radio turned up full blast and both hands holding the upper dash whilst you steer with your face! :-D

Also I've noticed a clicking from the accelerator pedal when touched lightly. Think I remember reading it in a post before, but only recently noticed it myself and now notice it constantly! :badrazz:

I too get the squeaks, but I can live with it, too busy hanging on for dear life  The click from the accelerator only happens for me if I have A/C on, otherwise it don't do it.

I can live with it .... but the roads are crap ... so most of the time I hear the damn squeak :D

I'm curios if the noise is from plastic on plastic or if it'a another material between them....
Someone said I should use a powerful air blower (he said that maybe it's from dust). Tried it ... no luck.

mine started to squeek to the point of severe aggrivation at around 1k, now just shy of 4k and dont notice it anymore, so fingers crossed yours will go same way without the risk of replacing the dash.

it sounded like a plastic biro was rattling around inside it iirc

I have exactly the same squeak and from the same part. I sometimes finish work at 3:00am and when I drive home it happens. Usually when it is cool. However, it does not occur when there is a warm ambient temperature.

I also have an annoying rattle from the front passenger seat back when it is not occupied. There seems to be some play in it which is taken up when it is sat in. Does anyone else have this?

I hope there is no problem if I post the link to another forum.

That graphically illustrates the exact solution I found. Unfortunately driving along holding the dash for prolonged periods is not condusive to safe driving.

This is obviously a widespread problem.

Took mine in for the same, dealer dismantled whole dash, had it for 2 days, say now the windscrean needs re-sealing. Have to take it in again for specialist to do.

If i paid 18k for a new car I wouldnt expect any rattles at at all. My 13 year old Toyota doesnt rattle at all :) Not that I can hear it over the turbo and exhaust mind.

I remember I had a couple of rattles on my EP3 but the only one you could really hear was the ashtray which was a simple out-in fix.

Have any of you taken it back again and again to get these rattles sorted?

Get them to apply a silicon spray to the areas of plastic that touch to act as a long lasting lubrication.

Had the same problem on my type-S oil burner. Dealer removed, and re-sealed the windscreen, seems to have done the trick.

I discovered today that the noise was from upper part of the dashboard (plastic) rubbing against the screen of the rev counter.
Put something between them and got rid of the damn squeaks :)

I rearranged the rubber/sponge that is supposed to prevent the squeaking .... in time (an probably from heat) it moves/slides and the platic from the tacho rubs against the plastic from the dash.

You could try putting some kind of rubber....
