HELP
Very worried, my type r gt has now cut out 4 times, When I say cut out, I dont mean stalled, I mean shut down, engine stopped, all dash lights out, speedo off etc. The first 3 occasions I wasnt to worried, it happend in deep gravel at work, very low revs. This morning, it cut out while slowing to 20mph going into a corner in my town centre. Obviously lost power steering so getting round the corner and stopping with heavy traffic wasnt much fun. This left me feeling quite worried EG if this happens at a higher speed, and has made me feel nervous about driving the car.
Took it straight to the honda dealer, who couldnt get the car to do it, nor found anything problem on the cars computer. Their only suggestion was that one of their mechanics would use the car for a week or so to see if they encountered the problem, to which I told them I wasnt very keen on. My vanity mirror light is on permantly possibly since I bought the car 2 months ago, it is even on when the key is out of the ignition, only found this yesterday, which they say they will replace. I wonder if that could be draining the battery and causing any issues? Unlikely? The car always starts up ok straight after.
Is there anything else I can do? Has anyone else had this on the new type r? They say honda havent heard of anything, should I ring honda direct?

something similar happened to a guy on the civinfo forum. stopped on a dual carriageway in the way you did i think. he got a new replacement car + a few free accessories from honda. you should ring honda headquarters i think. this could get very dangerous. good luck.

Where is the automatic cut off sensor placed in the FN2? Could it be damaged by the gravel?

I don't know where the sensor is but the reset switch is behind the drivers side of the dash and is very sensitive.
But it doesn't kill the electrics only the fuel pump, and has to be manually reset.

You need to get that into a dealer sharpish and also get in contact with Honda Customer relations (they are very good).
If you call: 01753 590 760 they'll put the case on record.

The dealer were pretty much no use at all, I think I will give that number a call though thanks. Is it possible the battery could be the cause since the vanity light thats constantly on?

Sounds to me like you could very well have a seriously large electrical fault somewhere in the car.
You need to get a second dealer to have a look, but make sure you speak to UK Customer relations as well.

If your car has the power to start the engine i wouldn't think you have a problem with the battery.

The one thing that worrys me about the FN2 is the way it handles power loss.
In my MK5 Golf you can turn the ignition off and take the keys out, the power steering still works and so do the brakes.
Whats happening is the forward movement of the car is powering the hydraulics in the steering + brakes, so in fact the faster you are going the more response you have. I tried this with my FN2 and basically everything went very stiff, steering + brakes which was a little bit of a shock :

Had the same problem with my previous car mk6 fiesta zetec s, it kept going into limp home mode(12mph) was in the dealers for 2months trying to get it sorted. I would not move it off the forecourt until its fixed it happened to me on the motorway I was doing about 80mph when it kicked in and lost a tremendous amount of speed in seconds resulting in the car behind me narrowly missing me!
Dealers changed ECU, wiring loom and a load of engine parts, turned out to be a sensor that kept moving out of line, but id had enough and traded in for a big loss for the Type R but at least im happy now

They are though. Put it this way they are better than the stupid Renault customer service
That's like saying Stalin was better than Hitler....
I mean come on mate, you think every single dealership in Scotland other than your own Mazda dealership is poor (look back on your previous regarding any other dealership).
EvoStu.
Mazda aren't that great either

The problem up here is that 90% of dealers are Arnold Clark, Reg Vardy or John Martin Group, so the staff don't give a fcuk. The best dealer here is actually Subaru, or the Glasgow Honda dealer...Hyndland Honda.

Done a few miles today all seems ok, will put quite a lot of miles on over the weekend, and take it very steady. Hopefully it wont happen again, the car is going back on tuesday to have a new vanity mirror fitted. I might raise it with them again. then. Hopefully all will be ok.

I thought this forum was a good online section of an enthusiast club. TBH all I'm seeing recently is the usual suspect just spamming every FN2 thread with bile and hatred. It could get boring very quickly. BRB - off to spam a Mazda forum with hate...
