In theory, you should get great mpg when used gently and very good power delivery and throttle responce when prevoked.

Hi,

I use the 0W30 from Q8.
It's okay, on road and on closed track, when it's freezed outside or when it's hot outside. I drove 87.000 km's without probs.

How's Honda 10W-40 semi synthetic? Sorry I know FA about oil :? The manual suggests oil from the dealer, so that's what I got.

Right, I've read pretty much all of this and most of it has gone completely over my head.

Thanks oilman for all of the fantastically technical info on here. top stuff.

As far as I can work out, the best oil for me is Silkolene, Motul or Redline 5w-40.

Although embarassangly enough, I still don't know what the 5w and the 40 means

The 5w stands for the cold start viscosity of the oil, the second number is the viscosity of the oil when hot.

Is there actually much of a difference between a branded 5w-40 (say Mobil, Silkolene etc) and a non-branded one?

Halfrauds have their own brand at £29.99, (buy one get one free) at the moment. seems a good deal...?

The main difference is that one is a proper synthetic and the other is a petroleum based oil labelled as a synthetic.

Is Castrol petroleum based labelled as synthetic?

My CTR is brand new, and I've been topping up with SLX 0-30 as that what it says in the supplied leaflet.

This thread is certainly very informative, and I think I may well order some Silkolene before the service, rather than Castrol.

I'm using Mobil 1 as is listed prev as one of the best to use!

I've got 1 daft question.

Honda now state that you should use the Castrol SLX 0w-30. If I supplied my own oil, which is different and had an engine problem, could this in any way void my warranty?

I don't see how it could, but some places can be so pedantic with this sort ofthing.

Honda actually specify a list of oils from 0w-30 to 10w-40, it's down to the Dealer to supply what he chooses. Deals normally!

SLX is expensive and not a necessity, a quality 5w-40 is all you need.

I actually use BP 0w30 oil "specific longlife" , very good oil :D

Image

I tried castrol rs ( 0.5 ltr per 1000 km) , honda oem oil ( 0.5 l/1000 km too ) , motul and other oils but with this one my engine don't burn oil anymore and work better , the only problem is that i must change this oil each 7500 km .

Just bought my CTR from a Subaru dealer and they have put Shell 5w 40 oil in. After reading the lengthy threads above I know this is ok for the CTR, I was just wondering what people thought of the Shell oil? Good? Bad? Average?

Thanks,

Paul

5 pages already and yet more questions?

Sorry guys & girls, but just picked up my CTR from the deal and having read the posts, general chat about 'heavy' oil consumption want to carry a 'top up' in the car asked the dealer what oil they have used, and was suprised to learn they use fully synthetic from the get-go, (Castrol RS 0W-40), so I'm following suit.

Should I be concerned?

Cheers
