Evening Folks,

Think I have a major problem with my 05 CTR. driving home this evening I opened her up and got the vtec kicking in, was fairly tramping on (legally might i add!) when the car started to sound very loud and rattly. At first I thought it was the undertray so stopped the car (left idling) and went for a look....all seemed well so i gently nursed the car home. However there was a distinct knocking. When i got home i put it in the garage for a proper look. Sounds fine on idle but there's a definite knocking from the top end when you rev it up....any ideas?...

Definitely top end? I'd check your oil level but chances are the damage is already done. Big end bearings generally are what fail. Kills the crank and the price of a crank kills the car.

Hi Lewis,

Sounds like top end camshaft area, but cant be certain. I'm going to whip the cam cover off tomorrow for a peek...oil level wasnt at the top mark, nearer to the bottom mark.

School boy error letting the level get low. These engines have to be kept topped up right to the max to avoid damage. Let's hope it's not too serious.

bottom end has let go, it sounds like its coming from the top but It isn't.
