Rattle/creaking from front end

Hi guys, the past two days I have noticed a noise has started in my car and it is getting more and more prominent.

It happens when driving along, and is especially noticeable when pulling away and slowing down at traffic lights, and can also be heard when going over bumps.

It seems to be coming from directly in front of my, more or less, though I can't tell if its in the engine bay, behind the dash or behind one of the wheels... it's really hard to diagnose!!! It's hard to even describe what it is - sometimes I think it's a rattle, other times more of a "creaking" noise.

Anyone any ideas for me or where to start? :-|

PS....The things that don't seem to really have any effect on it are engine revs, whether the car is in or out of gear, whether im steering or going straight...

I think I'll probably use some kind of grease rather than wd40, should last a lot longer.

Fingers crossed it sorts the problem, it's such a horrible noise, yet a you say doesn't really have much of an affect on the car...

I had this problem

Rather than piercing the rubber gaitors i took mine to a garage and they removed them properly and gave it all a good grease

Had this done a good month ago and i havent heard any noise since

Guys I'm delighted to say that I filled the boots with chain lube and the noise has instantly disappeared, the steering is also a bit lighter and nicer :-D Problem solved I think!
