Need a car for the wife (circa £10k). Thinking a Passat estate (big boot for the double buggy, decent spec, reliable.

Any issues I should look out for?

If you want reliability I'd avoid DSG. They rarely go wrong but when they do it's thousands to fix. Plus it's an added service cost with gearbox oil and oil filter need changing every 40k
Usual diesel fails. The EGR will either block up or stop working. Exhaust temperature and pressure sensors fail and if left long term will wreck the DPF.
Other than that they're pretty good and have a decent spec.

Why not stay Honda and get an Accord?

Get an audi A4. I've got an A4 as my daily and had a passat prior to that and the audi is just that little bit nicer to drive. Just my opinion.

Sod the estate, boot is massive on the Hatch. Probably get a reasonably low mileage 59/60 plate vRS for 10k. :salut:

I want an A4 but my budget and desired age don't match up?

Opinions please;
Wife called garage to view a Passat Estate and said she would be in today
Turned up and car is up on show ramp
Salesman said he would only take it down if she was going to buy today
Wife asked for a test drive, was told No, only if she commits to buying
Asked to make an appoint for later in the week when the car was down and was told No.

What the actual frick?

Tell them they have lost a sale and go elsewhere.

If it was a main dealer, put a complaint in to their head quarter in writing.
