Hey guys, my Girlfriend has a 1 litre 06 reg hyundai getz, it had an oil change service in feb and i checked it the other week and the oil was low so I topped it up with some spare oil I had in my garage, I don't keep crap oil so it was probably good stuff. However now its making a tapping noise when idling and she says it doesn't sound too clever.

Could mixing the standard probably not so good oil with decent stuff cause a problem? What about mixing viscosities?

As its only a 1 litre i didn't think it would matter too much. I'm tempted to go to halfrauds in the morn, get some oil and just drop the lot out and change it along with the filter.

Advice would be appreciated

if its the 3 cylinder engine im sure it uses a strange oil viscosity but would google it if i was you or look in the owners manual

Personally, I would never mix different lub oils unless I was certain of the compatibility.
The capacity of the engine is utterly irrelevant.
I believe you can get problems if you mix synthetic and mineral oils.
Knocking is never good though, so you should get it checked out ASAP. At the very least do another full oil change with the correct grade.
