Well guys, we finally picked up our FN2 Type R Milano Red (fastest colour  ) last Thursday evening and thought i'd share our progress to date.

Excellent car with deceptive ability to carry suprising speeds  ! As in the EP3 before it the car can obviously benefit from certain areas of improvement, namely the handling, brakes, performance, sound and character.

1st Job
1st thing I did was clean it as you only really know you've bought a good one when you get up close, it's only 3 months old & done 1,800 miles but has a bloody annoying stone chip on the front of the roof  . Still no issues like some of you had on the bumper / bonnets. Other than that the car is mint and no other problems :-D .

2nd Job
Checked the geometry and suprise SUPRISE the findings were all over the place!!! The rear is within spec which is cool as there is no possible way of making this adjustable with the new rear suspension set-up on the FN2. As for the front we had 1/4 degree Negative camber on the nearside and 1/2 degree Positive camber on the offside :???: , this DOES NOT make for a good handling car!!! We fitted our adjustable front camber bolts and set the camber & alignment to our Fast-Road spec. This has transformed the feel of the car on the road giving far better turn in with improved steering feel and reduced understeer. You can really lean on the front tyres now and make them work with confidence. Total transformation & impressive results :-D
We can supply the front camber bolts for £35 inc vat or supply and fit them including setting the geometry up to fast road spec for only £125 inc vat.

3rd Job
Thought the headlights were w**k so as we're a PIAA dealer we fitted uprated Xtreme White Plus headlight bulbs (H7 dip, H1 main) along with bright white LED sidelight bulbs. Not only do these look a million times better but driving down some un-lit lanes over the last few nights they are a massive improvement over the standard poxey Honda bulbs. HID looks & performance without the HID price or legality issues - Happy days (or nights)
PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulb kit (2 x H7, 2 x H1, 2 x LED sidelight bulbs) £116.00 inc vat

4th Job
I know some of you have your own opinions on these but I like my Type R to actually say Type R so a pair of side decals and a grill badge to be fitted  . While the front bumper was off (crazy job to fit the grill badge properly!) i also removed the 2 x black plastic flaps behind the lower mesh grill, these are fitted due to different climates in different countries and as our car will be used hard on both road & track i think the extra air flow can only be a good thing. Also looks a lot better now with both flaps removed as the lower bumper mouth is fully open  . Stickers and grill badge finish it off nicely too, if i wanted a type nothing i'd have bought a 1.6 :???:

5th Job
Brakes! Had a good look at the brakes and other than the caliper being badged Type R and being relocated to the front of the wheel as opposed to the EP3 being at the rear the discs & pads are the same as the early car. Tried to fit a StopTech 4-pot kit but no joy - The floating disc is hard against the ball joint so no 4-pot kits for now......... We then trial fitted the PowerSlot 350mm front big-disc conversion kit and this fits great (with a little mod or 2) and fills the 18" wheel really well. If you have the 19" rages you need this kit to stop your brakes looking so ridiculously small! The kit not only looks great but being 50mm larger in diameter and grooved offers far better braking ability with improved cooling and reduced brake fade which can be an issue on sustained hard fast-road use. Not anymore :-D . The brakes are now far better even using the standard Honda pads. We will be trying some pad options over the next few weeks and will keep you all posted.
PowerSlot front 350mm big-disc brake conversion kit (includes pair of 350mm grooved discs, caliper relocation brackets and fitting kit) is £375 inc vat with an additional £90 fitting charge if required.

Car is going to an independant rolling road for a standard dyno run on Friday morning so we have a baseline figure prior to development of sports exhaust system and filter kits etc. We'll keep you posted.
212.7 BHP @ 7625rpm
&
152.5 lb/ft @ 6065rpm

Future developments
Or car is going over to Milltek Sport next week for 5 days for development of a cat-back stainless steel system. We hope to offer 2 exclusive ABP systems (one slightly louder than the other) and will keep you posted on performance improvements etc once the car is re-dyno'd. We hope to have these systems available from stock within the next 4-6 weeks. We will then be carrying out back to back power runs of the AEM sports air filter kit we have available. We know these kits fit perfectly, sound great and give improved throttle reponse on the road but we will now see what power gains they offer. We will be developing a set of sports lowering springs to hopefully lower the car by 30 - 35mm and improve the handling even further.

Latest news

Car has been back on the Dyno this morning with the ABP Milltek Sports cat-back system fitted and here are the results:

219.5 BHP @ 7596rpm
&
159.8 lb/ft @ 6100rpm

A good start guys +6.8bhp power gain along with torque increase of +7.3 lb/ft

Watch this space FN2 owners

Pictures of the brake kit installed will follow soon.

Thanks for reading, Chris

Excellent, think ill be coming to see you for lights and geometry soon, than exhaust and filter in the new year.

As a matter of interest, can you do a price on filter, exhaust, lights and geometry? Might have them all at once if you do me a deal. Obviously you wont know exact exhaust prices yet. PM me if you don't want to make your answer public.

Will do you a price on all as soon as we establish a price for the exhaust - could be 2 - 3 weeks though!

Look forward to seeing you soon on the other bits

Damn you Chris  :bad-words: for putting temptation in front of me. Mmmm, quite like the idea of beefier looking stoppers and roartier 'zorsts would be nice. Car is just too quiet in standard spec.

Note to myself: start saving up. :-D

Wow you fitted some bulbs and decals to the car, better get it signed up for a magazine shoot! :)

Is that what they call mod "development" on cars now?

Could've just mentioned the brake kit and skipped all the meaningless fluff about washing it, putting stickers on it and changing bulbs which are obviously going to be the same as any other car. Sticking an HID kit on it would be more noteworthy.

You see I'm thinking all that cash for the asthetic optional extras from Honda is just a waste. Come delivery day I will be saving my money, booking in with you and having most of that done straight off!!

I'd be interested to know prices and details when you iron it all out to get it all done in one go?

I assume all this stuff wont hurt your warranty? Maybe the brakes might be a bit dicey??

Do you need anyone to state the obvious for you on other things as well then? Perhaps "what to wear"? Bulbs are bulbs are bulbs - they're not going to be any different between cars/models, unless you get into HIDs & Xenons.

Sorry if I'm being over-cynical but I expected a thread about "Development progress" from a company known for being "important" in EP3 circles to have something more to show than "we cleaned the car, changed some bulbs and stuck some stickers on".

Investment in an FN2, brakes experimentation, geometry set up development, air filter kit experimentation & development, exhaust system development, suspension package development, independant dyno power runs..........

See many other companies 'actively' investing in time / expense to make FN2 parts available :?: Yes CPL have a car - have you seen anything being announced for eager FN2 owners yet?

We're only trying to move the game forward Durzel and as you are accutely aware the stickers, badges and bulbs are personal preference.

More news on the 'more serious' developments to follow when ready. Hope this keeps you happy in the meantime

Do you have any thoughts on the insurance and warranty implications of uprating the brakes?

I fancy the geometry setup, the bulbs :stfu: and the brakes but only if it isn't something I have to blb to my insurance or Honda will void my insurance on!!

I seem to remember they werent bothered with my air filter change in the CTR.

The warranty implication of fitting the larger brakes are simply that the warranty will be void on any braking related faults which is unlikely anyway. But you're putting new discs on that come with a warranty anyhow! As for the insurance querie, i'm guessing you could tell them that you've replaced the brakes for better replacements but who tells their insurance company when you replace your discs?

All depends on the dealer in question really, we've had no problems in the past if you have a good relationship with them.

Hope this helps, Chris
