I just had a random idea. I dont know too much about engines so I thought i would ask here.

But a turbo makes the car faster by forcing air into the engine. Now i know it wont be as effective, but lets say you used an air compresser from a pair of large car horns that feed approx 80-100 psi of air and you linked it so the air compresser blew air into the pipe of an induction kit. This would presumably be a lot more air going into the engine.

Would this work do you think in making the car accelerate quicker??

WTF

so what are you going to use to power the air compressor?? obviously if you provide the engine with a higher outside air pressure then it will have a higher differential between that and the semi vacuum that will be existent within the combustion chamber and thus lead to higher air speeds through the intake system and therefore more air in the cylinder for combution --> more power. but how are you going to continuously power this charging system. youll likley end up with just the plain old turbo or supercharger system. nothing new. hell... standing next to the intake and blowing onit will technically increase the power... good luck.

although air from your lungs will be de-oxygenated so maybe not.

@ RM CYA - thanks for your contribution.

It wouldnt need an extension cable from the house because normally the compressor used on a car airhorn is designed to be powered from the car battery. Would be a little difficult to drive around with an extension cable hanging out me thinks.

As for whether it would need to be left on all the time...no.
You could wire it up to a button mounted on the dash and when pressed it would force more air into the combustion chamber. For example if you were over taking, or needed a short burst of extra speed, you could press it and the car would accelerate faster.

which will in turn place extra load on the engine, sapping power.

Oh right, when you put it like that I wonder why this has not been introduced to the mass Market, I mean if one guy who knows nothing about engines can dream up this amazing idea in one afternoon, just what in the holy mother of Christ are these billion dollar firms throwing money away on? Just buy nicholarse a coffee.

anytime mate!!

Seriously come on, you really think This is it, 'this time next year I'll be a millionaire'?? Not with this Idea you won't. Same thing as the electronic supercharger bolted to the ind kit, 14K rpm and it was still crap!!

Also, 100psi???

OK, so we are starting to get somewhere with this idea now.

So by scoffing at 100psi, are you saying thats too low? Thats from a mere 20w compressor so a 60w compresser would be a lot more powerful that would definitely get a lot more air going in there.

@ Newannaiive - im not sure if the compressor would take up all that much power. Its a grey area whether the power provided would be larger than the power consumed by it, but as alternative if you attached a battery/capacitor to it rather than have it running from the live engine then it would be completely not draining power at the time you activated it.

I have another good idea too, i was going save for another thread but f*** it, im sure you'll all love this one too.
Instead of farting about with your gruppe m's which you have to bodge up your scuttle panel anyway.... just have the cone induction kit going straight into the engine (not tonnes of twisty pipes like the K&n typhoon or perhaps ITG). Then justcut a hole in your bonnet and attach a medium sized scoop that filers the air directly onto the cone, similar to a subaru impreza but preferably not as ugly. I reckon that would have better results than the CAI's or the gruppe m.
