Just done this and i know it can be a pain as some are stucjk on, so heres my guide

Thanks to Ashman 3000 for all the help

Tools needed:

14mm open socket spanner
Mole grips(or anything to grip the gear knob)
Hairdryer( take from your mum,gf, sister  )

Image

Step 1:

Undo the nut clockwise to loosen the gear knob from the stick

Step 2:

Get your hairdryer and proceed to heat up your gear knob. This process is to heat the glue up to make the knob screw off without any hassle. This will take up to 10-15 mins depending on how powerful the hair dryer is:

Step 3:

Once the knob is piping hot( try and touch it for a split second  ) and grab your mole grips. Grab the gear knob with the grips, now start to turn the knob anticlockwise , as the glue will be soft the gearknob will come off after a few turns

Step 4:

As the gear knob is now off you can now:

1) apply your new aftermarket/refurbed gear knob.
2) Get your one refurbed

Step 5:

Turn the nut anticlockwise to tightin up your gearknob

Step 6:

Look at your handywork and be proud :-D :-D :cooldude:

I hope this helps everyone out :salut:

If you take the original gear knob off without wrecking it like you have, they fetch between £30-£40 on the bay.
Makes your new aftermarket one that much cheaper.

Seems kinda Rash buddy to take vise grips to the gear knob! You do know you can get a rubber oil filter removing tool which would do the same job without damaging the gear knob?
